A short trip to Sri Chandra Choodeswara Temple Hosur

On this sunday we got to meet our friends in E'City for lunch and post lunch we thought of going for a quick drive to the nearest place. After browsing through an hour we have decided to visit a beautiful temple on the hill top in Hosur 'Sri Chandra Choodeswara Temple'. The weather is also awesome, so we have decided to quickly reach there as it is already 3:30PM. We have kickstarted our journey and planned to reach there before the sunset.

We have reached our destination around 5PM as there is huge queues at the toll gate. The land mark to reach the entrance of the temple is we need to take a right after crossing the Hosur bus stand and the flower marked we need to a right on the service road under the flyover. You may ask the locals if the maps are not clear.(Which I ususally do so 😉 ). We have an big arch that welcomes you to the temple and the uphill starts from there. Though it is around 1KM of the uphill fairly simple drive which will take you directly to the entrance of the temple and you have a decent amount of parking there.

Hosur has the place that has the influence of Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. So we can see that at the entrace we have the wall paints in all the 3 languages. Due to variations in the local languages and dialects, the temple is also referred to as 'Chandira Choodeshwarar', 'Chandra Choodeshwara', 'Chandra Choodeshwar', 'Shri Choodeswarar' or 'Arulmigu ChandraChoodeshwarar'. The main deities of the temple are Shiva, depicted as the Shiva linga and the Goddess Parvati, depicted as 'Maragathambal'. In the 10th century, Hosur was known as Chevidapadi, and in the 13th century, Hosur was known as Murasunadu, From 16th century onwards, it is been called as Hosur.

The temple has grown during the time of the Cholas, Hoysala and Vijayanagara Emperors. On the day that we have visisted there is some homam happening at the temple and there is big crowd in the temple and darshan was a bit chaos as the people are entering into temple from different entrances. Somehow we have finished the darshan after waiting for 30-45 mins. There is some procession of the deities that also causes the delay in darshan. After finishing the darshan the prasadam that is served is super awesome 😋. Sweet Pongal and Puliyogare that is served is almost the quantity of a meal and it super duper tasty. So we had our tummy full and finished our photoshoot and had witnessed beautiful view of the town from the top of the hill. The weather is suddenly changed  it has became dark and cloudy. So we have decided to return to bangalore as we don't want to stuck in the traffic at 6:30PM. And we reached Bangalore around 7:30PM. It was a pleasant short trip on 11th Aug 2019 😤.
